The One Where Henry is 5 Months Old

(Do you see how great I am at blogging? I'm half a month late on this post. I'm going to chalk up the blog silence to being a direct result of how busy we are having fun this summer. This past months of Henry's life has been very fun. And very busy.)

Just as I had hoped, a little bit of mobility has really made Henry a much happier camper. He likes to giggle and be attacked with kisses. He squeals in delight quite and likes to test the limits of his vocal chords on a regular basis. He is back to his happy little self. And it is very nice.

Interestingly enough, getting ready for bed is no longer his favorite part of the day. In fact, it seems to be his least favorite time of the day. "You want me to lay still for 20 whole seconds?!?! What are you thinking?!?!"

When not being asked to lie still against his will, Henry has had a lot of firsts this month. He saw his first IMAX movie about the Hubble Telescope. We took him to his first music concerts to see Brad Paisley and Darius Rucker at the Willamette Country Music Festival. To be fair, he mostly slept through them. But when he wasn't asleep, I think he liked it. We took him to Multnomah Falls and peach picking and to the symphony underneath the St. John's Bridge. Aunt Georgia and Aunt Jaci came to visit us, and we went to see his grandparents in Moscow for a few days as well. We played in tents made of sheets and in splash pads and parks. It was rather lovely.

He had a checkup a few weeks ago and weighed in at 17 pounds, 3 ounces and measured 27.5 inches long. (Olivia, by comparison, currently weighs 24.5 pounds and measures 34.5 inches. She's got two years, 7 pounds and 7 inches on him. Aren't genetics so weird?)

And he is on the move. He is rolling and planking and reaching for everything. I don't know why he's in such a rush to grow up. It makes me a little bit sad. But at least he's still ridiculously cute.

His new tricks make it easier for his sisters to play with him, which is pretty much the sweetest thing ever. I do love happy siblings.

Dear Henry,

The phrase I keep reminding myself of this past month is: "It won't be like this for long." Sometimes it's frustrating trying to get everyone all the food, sleep and love they need. And I get a little tired. But then you giggle at me with your boisterous, infectious laugh and I melt a little bit. I remember that I am very, very grateful to be your mom and to get to experience every little thing about you.

It is such fun to watch you grow and change every day. You are on the brink of crawling, and I am always checking to see if you have figured it out yet. You are constantly discovering new things and becoming more and more of a participant in your world.

You are such a sweetie and have a lovey personality that just makes everyone around you exclaim at your cuteness. I can't really blame them, I myself hang out with you all day and can barely get enough. I just love you more than I can even handle sometimes.

Don't grow up too fast.

Love,
Mommy
